What do you like best about the product?
Features like Story Builder, email threading, exporting to combined PDF, de-duplication of "near duplicates," and "printing" of work product for each document are all features that were sorely lacking from our previous platform. Now that we have them, I don't know how we ever went without. This platform provides functions that I did not expect to find outside of a CaseMap or Case Notebook type of program, and I couldn't be happier. I also really appreciate the level of support we have gotten in terms of training, customization, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Everlaw is not the most flexible in terms of offering affordable pay-as-you-go options for smaller practice groups, so it wasn't cost-effective for us until we reached a point where we were reliably hosting 10+ matters on our e-discovery platform at any given time. I started my career in an 8-person "boutique" litigation firm, so I do wish Everlaw would roll-out some options for smaller firms to more cost-effectively use the platform. In ,my opinion, the per-matter options currently available are cost-prohibitive unless you have a matter with at least 20 GB of data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are at a smaller firm and not yet ready to commit to a contract, this might not be the right fit for you. But, if you are in the position we were in, I recommend that you switch to Everlaw the minute your firm's usage of e-discovery hits the 100 GB mark.
If you are at a larger firm and/or are already consistently using a platform, I recommend evaluating Everlaw for its pricing (no user fees!), post-production functionality (witness outlines, live collaboration with your litigation team, etc.), its ability to bring data processing in-house, its wide range of supported file types, its translation functions, its AV file transcription, its integration with multiple cloud platforms (Dropbox, Box, Google Vault, etc.), its user-friendliness, and its support options.
Lastly, this isn't necessarily a weakness of the platform, but I do think that in order to get the most out of Everlaw, you need someone in-house who has the time and ability to thoroughly learn the ins and outs of the platform. I don't think you need someone with anything close to the level of training and expertise required to administer a Relativity-based solution, but I do think it's important to have someone on your team who can dedicate time and take every available training.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our previous platform was excellent for introducing attorneys to e-discovery -- better late than never -- but this platform allows us to do so much more. We are able to adapt and tailor the platform to benefit all of our attorneys - from the least tech-savvy, who will never log into the platform itself, to the most tech savvy, who want to learn and utilize every trick and function available. And we are able to effectively utilize Everlaw from the beginning of a case (in-house data intake, relevance review, production), through substantive review and annotation, through depositions and dispositive motions, until we go to trial.
